Dr. Lee Yong-Tae made an opening address at the Toegye Academy conference held at the Korea University 100th anniversary hall on 29 and 30 May with the theme 'Asking way to Toegye (退溪 李滉, 1501~1570, a renouned neo-Confucian scholar) at an age of reconciliationa and coexistence'. In the address, Dr. Lee  payed attention to the individualism and selfishness prevailing in our society today and, as a way to overcome it, suggested that we recover the scholar spirit of our ancestors and rebuild the confucianistic principles in which the priority was given to the interest of the community over individual selfishnes. The conference was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and hosted by the Toegye Studies Promotion Agency and Toegye Studies Institute. Leading scholars studying the Toegye studies participated as lecturer in the conference.
